Social Media Club Des Moines

If you get it, share it

I know this isn't really related to social media, but I figured a lot of you have contacts in the digital media realm and might be able to help me out.

My boss is asking me how much development of a smart phone application might cost so she can build it into our next budget proposal. We're looking to create something that provides details on construction projects in the City of Ankeny and we have no idea where to start.

I explained to her that cost would likely be determined by the complexity of the project and the hourly rate of the developer. Problem is, I don't know any developers off the top of my head. Sure, there are online resources, but I'd prefer to work with someone local, if possible.

So, do any of you have leads on a smart phone application developer in the Des Moines area?

Thanks!

You might also look at platforms like AppMakr and Mobile Roadie. They each provide some slick looking tools for building your own app.
Ironically, less than 24 hours after you shared these online tools, Mashable has an article about DIY app building:

It really depends on what you want the app to do and what platforms do you want to develop the app on.
I've spent over 600 hours on Flarecaster for Android.

AppMakr and Mobile Roadie is nice but limited - mainly for an app to encapsulate your web-site or vanity apps.

If you're looking for a professional custom app developer in DSM, you may want to check with Dan Shipton @ BitMethod - http://www.bitmethod.com/
Recently read this and thought it might be helpful to add to the mix. It's about deciding between an app or a mobile website. http://www.trilixgroup.com/the-agency/against-the-grain/defining-a-...
Hey Tom -

You could try Kyle McCullough over at HostIowa.net. He'd a great developer and has a couple apps under his belt that I know of - primarily gaming, but if you're interested, drop him a note at "admin@hostiowa.net"

Here are some super good guys from Omaha: http://www.ninthdivision.com/
Also, we are working on an Augmented Reality app that is a bit more detailed with a company in Canada. Let me know if you have any interest in that. Not sure what functionality you are looking for.

Cheers,
