Develop some branding/identity for Social Media Club Des Moines

I would love to see someone with creative and/or design skills work to develop some branding for Social Media Club Des Moines. An .eps version of the Social Media Club logo is available and it would be great to see a twist on it for Des Moines. For examples of what other chapters have done, see this page of SMC logos in the wild.

The group mentions that they'd like to see the logo maintain the green/yellow/white colors, but I think we could still come up with something unique.

Also, upon coming up with a nice logo, we can probably update the colors here to reflect that logo. We'll also use the logo as an avatar for the site and as a favicon, so something that works well in a small size (or a different graphic altogether) would be great.

I am not creative, so I cannot take the creative aim here. But, after looking over the examples, I would like to throw out a thought about the image for our Logo. I would rather we focus on the city, maybe the skyline, rather than the text as the others have done. I think our focus should remain our community and the fact that we are such a tight knit community, keeping the text of the club somewhat in the background.
I will take a look at the other cities and see what has been done. I will also work up some ideas and post them as soon as I have time... It may be a few days, but be watching for them.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, Mike.

Timing on these is fine. I'd just like to get people thinking about ideas. I'm looking forward to seeing what you put together.
Pete...I like your idea of stepping away from the "boxy" nature of the other logos. Something spicy would be fun
Andrew has taken a first stab at putting together some ideas. Check out his work below:
