Social Media Club Des Moines

If you get it, share it

Let's host an Education Night-invite those businesses getting SM wrong

In light of WHO's story: signing off on social media and discussion on Twitter & blogs about how so many local businesses and groups are getting social media wrong, let's host an education night to help them become better!

We want them to engage, grow, learn, be participants in this community. I would gladly help plan an program that helps them learn to celebrate their friends/followers.

This is awesome Renda~"If we get it, share it". We've got a officer meeting Monday night that we can discuss and hopefully move forward on. Thanks for the discussion line.
Thanks for your support Katie. I could see bringing in other businesses that do get SM engagement - like Mars Cafe, Smokey Row, Cafe di Scala to speak about what their ROI has been. Let the businesses that are missing the mark ask them questions. Perhaps a panel discussion with some SM experts thrown in.
good idea...would probably resonate better.

question: how do you get them to come? fully understanding if you have to try too hard, then they aren't ready to learn.
I think an invitation that recognizes their efforts but encourages them that SM can help them build better following, better ROI, bottom line become more engaged. Maybe something along the line Are You Listening? or Do you know what your customers/viewers/readers are saying about you?

I don't imagine the ambush I joked about on Twitter. I imagine something very professional - it needs to be a win-win for them. Information to think about. Also, presents an opportunity for some of our members to showcase their services to work past the education night with the companies and their employees at their place of business.
Perhaps we could ambush them in an "What Not to Wear" intervention-style meeting. This is a great idea.
Engaging, educating, communicating, reaching out etc. about SM is IMHO a core function of this organization. Renda is right about demonstrating ROI for the audience. It is much easier for a decision maker to accept facts and evidence based information from community success stories, rather than this is what we think it will do for your organization. Having the Mars Cafe, Smokey Row, and Cafe di Scala(s) of the area involved adds credibility to the message that we are trying to deliver. How do you get them there? Start exercising your network for those individuals you are connected to that they trust. You guys (and gals) are the best networkers I've ever seen.
I know Cafe di Scala would do this in a heartbeat.
