Social Media Club Des Moines

If you get it, share it

I am currently interning (yes, it's a paid position, thankfully) for a non-profit organization, focused on adding an upcoming event to community calendars and writing up press releases to send to traditional media outlets.

I can tell you upfront that I have never done a press release before and I do not want to send out the typical blase cookie cutter version.

Is there anyone I can meet with to ask for suggestions and opinions on how to craft a press release that will be acceptable to media sources, and be short, direct, and engaging?

Thanks!

P.S. Enclosed is a copy of what I have written up.  It doesn't sound "personal" to the audience and it's rather lengthy.
