Member Profile

In an effort to connect with an introduce new members to our community, Social Media Club Des Moines will periodically reach out and ask a few questions of someone at random. 

This week, we spoke to Xochi (pronounce sōchē) Adamé and here's what she had to say!

What prompted you join SMCDSM?

I have been a member of SMC in Chicago since 2008; SMC has been essential to my learning and keeping up with trends. When I made the decision to relocate to Des Moines, finding the local chapter was an immediate must!

What are you looking for from a group like SMCDSM? 

Well, there's the free food! Seriously, timely knowledge and networking. I always glean the really substantive tips from rubbing elbows with developers, techies, creatives, etc. Much respect for those communities!

How do you use social media? 

I'm probably a moderate user among SM junkies. Like everyone, I have to manage my time diligently, but a large part of my work is still in traditional media. I use SM to extend where a traditional PR campaign leaves off, and to hopefully generate meaningful conversations. I am an experimenter! I love tinkering with new apps! Nothing excites me more than seeing what mashups and apps emerge victoriously from SXSW!

Name someone who you think is doing social media the right way.

@WowBao, the mouthpiece for an Asian sticky bun chain in Chicago. They keep it real, they engage in fun conversations and don't take themselves too seriously. They are masters at 4sq and FB engagement, and are big supporters of their local social media communities, especially SMC!

What's your favorite hashtag on Twitter?

I'm a self-professed #usguys lurker—big fan. But, as happy as I am for its founders, I fear its popularity is morphing it into an off-topic, self-promotion tool. The nature of the Twitter beast, these things happen.
