I would like to invite as many bloggers as possible in Des Moines to come out for all or part of the Saturday, June 30th, Meetup Celebration in Honor of Mashable's Social Media Day. Please see link to the event. We would love to get bloggers to contribute to a crowdsourced article about how social media is being used by businesses and individuals in Des Moines and what Des Moines' favorite social networks are. The final article will include photos and video and will be available to reposted to all contributor blogs.

I'm looking for bloggers for a new local news and community site in Urbandale.  Urbandale.Patch.com goes live next month and joins the aol.com chain of more than 850 successful online sites across the country. You retain ownership and editorial control of your blog and can link to your blog site. All we ask is that your write, or tweek existing blogs to address local readers on our site. One more thing, to blog for Urbandale, you must live or work in Urbandale. If you're interested email me @ anne.kay@ patch.com

Check out live Patch sites: waukee.patch.com; ankeny.patch.com and ames.patch.com

It has been awhile since anything new has been posted on this forum.

Let's catch up and learn more from any new bloggers who have joined within the past year.

If you're looking for something to do tonight, Mack Collier's weekly #blogchat on Twitter will be kicking off at 8pm CST. Tonight's topic is how to generate interest and traffic for your new blog.

Hi Jon. The first thing I would recommend is switching to Wordpress. Use wordpress.com if you want to stay free, but I would recommend buying a domain and starting "right" if you plan to use the blog in association with a business and using wordpress.org.
Next I would point you to the I_Blog Conference (www.iblogconference.com). Full disclosure: it's my conference. Claire Celsi is one of the speakers; she spoke last year as well, so you can ask her advice on attending. We will have something for every aspect of blogger from new to advanced.
For blogging tips I highly recommend Melanie Nelson's site Bloggingbasics101.com. She teaches in a regular-English typ of way that is easy to understand (she is also one of my speakers.)
If you do go to Wordpress I recommend Wordpress Camp,August 7 at the Des Moines Library (more info on that soon).
Your blog address didn't show on your post, so I wasn't able to take a look at what you had done.

So, I am new to SMCDSM, and I have recently started blogging. Nothing of particular interest yet, I am just getting used to the idea. Currently I am using Google Blogger because I use everything Google. If anyone has any advice that could help me out, I am open to feedback. Here is my blog address if you would like to give me feedback. I only have 3 posts so far, so be nice :)
