ABOUT TOM

I am a web and graphic design professional with over 10 years experience working for large corporations in the Des Moines area. I've lent my knowledge and experience to Meredith Corporation, Allied Insurance, Principal Financial Group and many more.

Recently, I got out of the corporate world and am now work for the City of Ankeny as a Web Communications Specialist in their Public Relations department. Part of my duties includes developing and deploying the City's social media strategy. I now speak on behalf of the City through Twitter and Facebook and am looking forward to building a consistent, conversational tone to our communication with our citizens.

In my free time, I produce a web comic about movies called Theater Hopper that appeared in Juice Magazine in 2008, but has been online since 2002. It has been the perfect platform for me to experiment with social media as a promotional tool and a gateway to marketing experience in a consequence-free environment.

I love social media and am looking forward to learning more from members of the Social Media Club.
