Facebook Hack NightLast night at Smokey Row was Facebook Hack Night, a bi-weekly gathering of Social Media Club of Des Moines members who are interested in tinkering around with America's largest social networking platform.

We all started a fan page (my girlfriend was surprised to find out she's running for Congress when I published mine) and learned about some of the basic ways of modifying it by using the Static FBML application.

Since everything in the Static FBML edit box is considered within tags I was worried about being able to use CSS, but all my fears were put to rest. You can use inline and internal CSS. I haven't tried external, but Ben Stone, who led the event, said he's had issues with images that are hosted outside Facebook (he suggested creating an album right there on your account )sometimes not showing up, so I'd rather just write my CSS internally.

Here are some of the resources we shared:

With over 325 million people on Facebook, you and your campaign cannot cannot cannot ignore it.

Thanks for sharing this recap, Greg. I love the photos too! It's great to see so many people taking advantage of the experience to learn more about Facebook and Facebook Pages. A little education goes a long way!
